University of the Potomac (formerly Potomac College) is a for-profit higher education institution in Washington, DC, and Vienna, Virginia. The school offers certificate programs, Associate of Science, Bachelor of Science, and Graduate program degrees in accounting, international business, government contract management, business, cyber security and policy, network security management, hospitality and tourism management, healthcare administration and information technology. University of the Potomac is regionally accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.
Program structure
University of the Potomacâs programs are tailored to a working population who seek the education necessary to reach the next career level. Qualified students can earn degrees in as few as 18 months, allowing them to more easily balance their jobs and families with school. Additionally, all courses are offered online.
Admissions and financial aid
University of the Potomac has an open admissions policy. Applicants (those who qualify) are eligible for both Pell grants and federal student loans. This university was one of 15 sites that made deceptive or questionable statements to Government Accountability Office investigators posing as applicants in 2010. The list included University of Phoenix, Kaplan College, Argosy University and 11 other for-profit institutions.
History
The University of the Potomac Board of Trustees announced its new President and CEO, Dr. Clinton Gardner in May 2013. Gardner had been a leader in higher education since 1985.
Locations
The university offers courses at two locations in Washington, DC and Vienna, Virginia as well as online. Both locations are easily accessible by public transportation, and the Washington, DC location is only a few blocks from the Tenleytown metro station on the Red Line. International programs
University of the Potomac offers a five-year international BA/MBA Program under a partnership with University of Business and International Studies in Geneva, Switzerland. The bachelor's degree is completed in the first 3.5 years and the MBA is completed after one additional year.
