The following is a list of the highest mountains in the State of Washington. Washington is one of only four states to have a high point reaching above 14,000 feet (on Mount Rainier), the other states being Alaska, California, and Colorado. The four highest mountains in Washington are potentially active stratovolcanos . Prior to its eruption in 1980, Mount St. Helens was the fifth-highest mountain in Washington at 9,677Â ft (2,950 m), but it is now reduced to 8,365Â ft (2,550 m).
The 100 highest mountains
This list uses a topographic prominence cut-off of 300 m, or about 1000 feet, which is generally used to separate individual mountains from (subsidiary) peaks. Topographic prominence is the elevation difference between the summit and the highest or key col to a higher summit. A few summits with a prominence just below 300 m are listed, but not ranked
With the exception of Mount Olympus, all mountains on this list are in the Cascades and the great majority are in the North Cascades.
